Dental dams are six-inch squares of latex, which were originally
used by oral surgeons/dentists. They provide a barrier between
your tongue and your lovers labia or anus. Although it's still
unclear how much of a risk oral sex presents as regards the spread
of STD's, especially HIV, there is some risk associated with the
oral sex so why take the risk?
During
oral sex, latex dams are simply stretched across your partner's
genitals to prevent your tongue from touching your partner's juices.
They are effective method of disease prevention, but be aware
they can be difficult to hold in place.
Latex
dams made for dental work can be found at medical supply stores
and some sex shops, but can be quite thick. Thinner varieties,
made especially for safer sex, can be found in some sex shops
and catalogs such as the one HERE.

Do
It Yourself Dental Dams
It is possible to make your own dental dams and below we've listed
some of the more popular ways of making DIY Dams.
Condoms
You can easily make your own dam out of a condom. Use a condom
that isn't lubricated with spermicide, since you'll be putting
your mouth on it. First unroll the condom, then: Cut off the tip
followed by the base and the finally cut down one side. You know
have a square latex dam, wasn't hard was it -))
Latex
Gloves
Start by taking a latex glove and cutting it open. Since, you're
going to be putting your mouth on it, use the kind without talc
inside. Then cut off the fingers and the base. Then simply cut
along the thumb side of the palm. ( Leave the thumb on.) That
way you have a dental dam with a bonus thumb-handle. You also
now have 4 bonus finger cots, which are especially recommended
if you have cuts, bitten nails, or torn cuticles on your fingers.
Saran
Wrap/Plastic Wrap
You can use kitchen plastic wrap as a barrier during oral sex.
The good part is that it's big and it is transparent. This lets
you see what you are doing. The downside is that sometimes it
sticks to itself, although you can also get it to stick to her,
which keeps it in place.
You
often hear that you should only use the non-microwaveable plastic
wrap, since the microwaveable wrap has pores to let out steam
that can let through viruses. As far as we know, this is false,
since the pores don't open until they're at high temperature.
(Okay, we know your sex is hot, but it's not that hot.)
Using
A Dam
Whether you make your own or buy one, like most things in life
there are a few simple rules you should follow when using a dam:
1.
Never lick the wrong side of the damn, it spoils the whole point
of the exercise!
2.Rinse
the dam first: Many dams are covered with a powder that can irritate
the genital area.
3.
Hold it firmly in place. This can be done either by the licker
or the lickee and will help increase the sensations.
4.
Put some lubrication on the side of the dam that will be in contact
with the genitals. Again this increases the sensations.
5. Some people like to experiment by placing different foods on
the side of the licker. This can be a fun way to play-))
6.
The Licker can try to create air bubble then sucking and snapping
them back.
7.
Try using one of the different flavored dams that are now on the
market for a bit of spice.
8.
Have fun! Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques
but always keep rule number one in your mind!
