I admit I was intrigued
when "Marie and Jack"
dropped into my mailbox.
The concept of combining
documentary style interviewing
with a sex scene fascinated
me, as did the subject matter.
Jack and Marie are two up-and-coming
adult movie stars who also
happen to be married to
each other. I can already
hear you asking, How
can that work? Is it really
possible to still have a
fulfilling sex life even
when both parts of a couple
work within the adult industry?
That's what the director,
Tony Comstock, set out to
explore, according to the
cover.
As
the film began to unfold,
I felt an immediate connection
with both the stars. They
seemed honest, open, and
sincere as they talked.
Neither were A-typical,
stereotyped porn stars.
They both talked candidly
about how they married,
being in the industry, and
having a relationship of
their own. You couldn't
help but get a sense of
their togetherness as they
talked. Marie was almost
shy on screen, which only
endeared her to me more,
and Jack had a sense of
humor that shone through.
By the end of the interview
I felt like I could take
both of them home to meet
my Mother without any worries.
They brought up many points
and answered many questions
that I had asked myself
for many years about working
in the industry.
The
interview was interspersed
with erotic glimpses of
the lovemaking scene that
was to follow. This was
not a porn movie in any
sense of the word - no make
up or coiffed hair, no corny
music or false breasts.
Instead the focus was on
the human aspect of this
couple making love, and
you could sense they were
making love and not simply
performing for a camera.
There was no pretense, no
extra props, just simply
two people enjoying the
sensations that pure lovemaking
can produce, when each partner
is fully comfortable with
the other. The camera angles
helped create this image
in my mind as well, with
a well thought out variety
of close ups and long shots,
occasional trips back to
the interview really gave
me a sense of who Jack and
Marie were. What singled
this out movie was that
they are a deeply sensual
and erotic couple that knew
what one another liked,
and they were truly in tune
with each other.
I
had only one real complaint
about "Marie and Jack.'
It left me wanting more!
Thirty minutes just wasn't
long enough. The film left
me with a deep sense of
wanting to see more of this
type of film on the market.
It wasn't surprising for
me to later learn that "Marie
and Jack" had won several
awards. As someone who has
reviewed many videos this
was a refreshing change
to watch and something that
I think many women would
enjoy. If your looking for
a simple jerk film, this
is definitely not for you.
But, if you're looking for
an intimate portrayal and
almost a voyeuristic view
into someone else's sex
life then this is a film
for you.
