In
this household the good old bullet
vibe is almost as legendary as the
serpent-headed monster that this
vibe takes its name from. What makes
this vibe different is the way in
which, unlike conventional bullets,
the Hydra requires no controller
and also runs on four watch batteries,
which are included. The bigger question
in mind, though, was would this
vibe live up to the hype that surrounds
it ? It wasn't long before my question
would be answered as the Fed Ex
guy pulled into my driveway.
Like
all bullet vibes, this is small,
measuring in at a mere 3 inches;
the fact that it requires no controller
and runs on four watch batteries
makes it a very compact vibe. Not
only is it waterproof but is moisture
activated, which intrigued me to
say the least, and it wasn't long
before the tap was running. It is,
I'm glad to report, very quiet when
in operation. The vibe itself has
a sturdy cord attached to its base;
this is a toy that can be inserted
like a tampon, and the moisture
you create will activate the two
electrodes that are placed on either
side of the Hydra.

I decided to give the Hydra some
high-powered testing and began with
simply inserting it, which was a
surprisingly easy operation. Be
prepared, though, because as soon
as both electrodes come into contact
with moisture, the vibe will jump
into action, and the vibrations
are really quite powerful considering
the tiny size of the Hydra. The
buzz itself was actually rather
pleasant, but using it this way,
I knew it was unlikely that I would
orgasm. As foreplay and a mood inducer,
however, it worked wonders. It wasn't
long before I discovered practicing
my kegels while the Hydra was inserted
brought the experience to a new
level, and the thrill of walking
around with a quiet, powerful, and
invisible vibe was a turn-on in
and of itself. The main disadvantage
was there was no clitoral stimulation,
which, like many women, I generally
require to orgasm at least the first
time, as well as the fact the Hydra
had only one speed.
I
then decided to take a shower since
I knew with certainty the Hydra
is waterproof. I should explain
here I took a shower/bath because
I find orgasming in the shower can
be detrimental to your health if
you fall and hit your head on the
tub, and I prefer to finish my orgasms
in comfort; I'm old, okay? My experience
in the shower was somewhat disappointing
to be honest, but when I lay in
the bathtub, immersed in water,
the Hydra took on a whole new life.
Unlike some waterproof vibes I've
tried in the past, the Hydra has
a tendency to float enough so it
doesn't hit the bottom of the tub,
a distinct advantage if you're trying
to pleasure yourself in privacy.
Nothing makes people ask what the
hell you are doing in there quicker
than a loud clanking as a vibe hits
the bottom of an enamel bathtub.
Using the Hydra this way I found
was ideal and allowed for easy clitoral
stimulation. The fact that the Hydra,
when immersed, was on without me
having to worry about any controls
was a real plus and let me simply
play around until I really did hit
the right spot. Again, the major
disadvantage was there was only
one speed, and there are times when
I would have liked more or less
juice. But it did the trick, and
that's what matters in the end!
I've
also taken the Hydra with me for
a day at the beach and into a friend's
swimming pool, and it performed
well under both conditions. In fact,
I found the motion of the waves
intensified my experience at the
beach, and there was also, of course,
the thrill factor, not to be confused
in any way with the fear factor.
Sitting on a crowded beach with
a vibe whispering to me was quite
a turn-on!

Hubby and I have had some oral fun
using the Hydra, and we didn't do
any talking, although I'm told I
moaned quite a bit. -)) Having it
humming away inside while he gave
me a real tongue lashing made this
toy a winner in this household.
Hubby didn't find the vibrations
strong enough to have any real effect
on him, describing it more as a
tickle than anything else. And I
found that having to hold my fingers
over the two electrodes was awkward
and to some degree annoying. He
did find the vibrations pleasant
around his perineum, as did I when
we played this way later.
What's
it all add up to?
If you're looking for a smaller
vibe that delivers a powerful punch
and is discreet, this reincarnation
of the bullet vibe is ideal. It
will certainly give a day out at
the beach or local pool a new dimension
and is a great foreplay tool from
that point of view. Because of its
size, it is a great traveling companion,
as well as a reliable one. My main
complaint was that it has only one
speed, but apart from that I highly
recommend the Hydra. It's quirky,
fun, and powerful but discreet at
the same time. I mean, what more
can a girl ask for? One word of
warning, though, don't leave your
Hydra in the bathroom as I did a
while back. I sort of left it in
the soap dish and forgot it was
there until one of my kids came
running through proclaiming that
a bug was loose in the bathroom.
