When
is a candle not a candle?
I know what you're thinking Jenne's spent
way too much time reviewing toys and it's
addled her brain. It's not as silly question
as you might think, and after reading
this review all will become clear.
If
there is one thing I love nearly as much
as sex toys it's candles, scented candles,
to be exact so when I was asked to review
a candle I thought what the hell. What
I didn't realize when I said yes was that
this wasn't just any old ordinary candle.
The lava lotion candle doubles as a massage
lotion as well. Now this was going to
be interesting for sure!
I
cautiously opened the package and was
surprised to find a nice looking tin which
contained my candle/lotion. Opening the
tin I was greeted with the sweet smell
of Jasmine. Unlike many candles that are
out there this wasn't overpowering, but
just about right, pleasant but not so
strong that I was liable to pass out which
is always a help. There was also a spare
wick under the tins lid, an attention
to detail I liked and gave me more confidence
in the product another major plus.
Remember
my original question when is a candle
not a candle well I can now reveal the
answer, when it doubles as a massage oil/lotion.
That's exactly what the Lava lotion body
candle does and does very well. The ingredients
are listed on the bottom of the tin and
there is nothing chemical based in them,
which again was something I liked. Like
any good reviewer I also read the instructions
and liked the fact that this could be
used both hot or cold.
I
couldn't resist trying it cold to begin
with and sure enough just rubbing it on
my fingers, it smelt wonderful. It was
absorbed easily my skin leaving it nice
and soft with a great jasmine scent. At
this point my Hubby came into the room
and his comment was that smells great.
This was looking better by the second.
At
this point we decided to give it a real
test and armed with a lighter we held
the lighting of candle ceremony in our
bedroom. It's not quite as fancy as the
lighting of the Olympic torch but hey
it's the best we could do at the time.
The
wax melted nicely and the smell was really
pleasant with just enough light that I
didn't feel like I had to hide anything
under a bushel. One of the advantage of
this being in a tin was even with the
fan on in the room as it was a hot weekend,
the candle stayed lit. So onto the next
part of the reviewing process.
Hubby
elected that he would do the massaging
and tenderly and carefully tipped the
candle so the wax spilled onto back. The
feeling of sudden warmth was wonderful
and it was quickly followed by Hubby massaging
this oil into my back. Oh bliss!! It was
a little strange at first but incredibly
sensual and like nothing I'd experienced
before. As a method of foreplay we decided
you couldn't go wrong with this one. Just
bear in mind that the wax is hot and the
higher you hold the candle above your
partner the better as it has more time
to cool before it drops.
This
is also not something I would recommend
using anywhere near the more delicate
parts of your body, due to the scents,
as they could seriously irritate delicate
tissues but as a general massage oil this
is better than many we've tried in the
past.
I
personally enjoy lighting candles when
I'm in the bathtub and relaxing and this
setting was where the next part of my
review took place. I also like to push
my toys and reviews to the limits and
think outside the box to an extent or
in this case the tin! So I decided to
try something a little different with
the lava lotion candle.
So
I lite my body candle and placed it on
the side of the tub for a while. I then
tipped some of the wax into the water
to see what would happen. With my bath
water fairly hot this stayed as an oil
and scented the bath water, but as I moved
through it it attached itself to my body
and I was able to massage it in. Even
as the water turned cooler causing the
wax to sit on the surface I could still
rub it in. It certainly gave my bath a
new dimension that's for sure.
What's
it all add up to?
In a word, fun! If you're looking for
something different but sensual then the
lava lotion candle will give you that
and a bit more besides. We tried the jasmine
scented version but it's also available
in Vanilla and we plan to purchase that
next. Both Hubby and I enjoyed playing
with this and it certainly adds a new
dimension to playing by candlelight when
you can actually play with the candle
a well.
I'm
planning to give these to some friends
that are getting married this summer,
as I think they will make stylish yet
unusual gifts for the bride and groom.
It sure beats the toaster that everyone
else will be giving and will probably
last longer -)).
So
now you know when a candle is not just
a candle!!
