These
are fatty areas on both sides of the vulva that are covered in
pubic hair in mature women. They perform a protective role, protecting
the sensitive structures of the clitoris and vulva that nestle
in the valley between the two lips.
Shaving
the labia majora and the mons is a common activity performed for
both hygene and cosmetic reasons.
An
extreme form of cosmetic surgury is gaining popularity in which
liposuction is used to reduce the labia majora so as to open the
vulva and leave the inner genitals exposed. One theory is that
this ensures the clitoris is exposed to direct stimulation during
intercourse so increasing the likelihood of an orgasm. We don't
however know if this is true.
